Barbarian Barbell is a non-profit organization that started with the belief that sport, in general, and weightlifting, in particular, can make a significant impact in the lives of its participants.

The popularity of weightlifting has grown exponentially in the last decade, yet its accessibility is lacking in communities such as those found in the San Fernando Valley. Because weightlifting requires a strong level of commitment to master, members of our community, including our youth, will benefit substantially from participation in the sport.


We proudly continue a tradition of high-level weightlifting in a fun, disciplined and supportive environment from Youth through Masters-level athletes looking to develop physical strength and confidence.


Our club is a developing but competitive team and has qualified and medaled athletes to USA Weightlifting's Youth Nationals, Junior Nationals, University Nationals, Senior Nationals, American Open Series, American Open Finals, University World Championships, Various Senior International Meets, Master's Nationals, and Master's World Championships! 


We are located in Van Nuys California inside a 15,000 sqft facility that is also home to VCF Athletics, Iron Pile Powerlifting, and  Breaking Parallel Pilates 


Our facility is a 2020 USA Weightlifting Community Development Training Site.  We have 10 training platforms and 2 dedicated jerk stations.

All athletes must first be evaluated to confirm a requisite level of technical proficiency in the snatch and clean & jerk prior to attending Small Group Training or Open Gym. Small Group Training is for weightlifters who have experience performing the Olympic lifts. Club programming and coaching is included. If you are new to weightlifting, please refer to our Weightlifting Fundamentals course or Private Lessons.



Improve overall technical proficiency in the snatch, clean & jerk, and supplementary lifts through private one-on-one or two-on-one lessons.  Each lesson is 1 hour and can be tailored to the individual to target specific weaknesses. Private remote lessons via Zoom available. 



If you do not have experience with Olympic Weightlifting, this course is for you. We will start you with 3 private lessons to acquaint you with the Olympic lifts, then you will have 1 month of unlimited access to our small group training.



This is an all-inclusive remote coaching service for athletes anywhere in the world. Programming and unlimited video review and feedback included. You must possess a requisite level of technique in the Olympic lifts which will be determined on a case-by-case basis. 



This membership is for unlimited access to the facility and equipment during Open Gym hours and includes a basic 5-day per week program. You must possess a requisite level of technique in the Olympic lifts which will be determined on a case-by-case basis. 



3-day or 5-day per week programming plans designed to improve technique and strength in the Olympic lifts. Each workout contains the lifts as well as accessory exercises.
